There is a whole world locked away in a sketch book. It a glimpse through a key hole into a mind of an artist. Selecting a new sketch book is an important process. There are certain practical requirements like size and weight, how will it fit into a bag. A sketch book need to feel comfortable in your hand, it need to be able to be flipped and flicked through quickly, as well as being able to casually ponder over pages. A sketch book needs to grow and develop a character with new ideas, thoughts, drawings, writings.
A good sketch book relationship is forged by not being too precious. It is hard not to try not to be presentable in a sketch book but the most beautiful sketch book moments come out a surge of scribbles and thoughts.
There seems to be a lot of love for traditional bounded sketch books at the moment, I jumped on this band wagon for a short time but have now returned to the bog standard ring bind. I like being able to open my sketch book right up, bend it into one page or rip out a page with ease. Bounded sketch books are good at times but please do not go out and buy one because your friends have them. Sketch books do not know of fashion!
Ahhh your's is enviable! I wish mine looked half as interesting. I need some felt tips or summat HA!
